Wellness/Health Screening ~ September
Volunteering for the BMES Health Screening Program offers one of the best and easiest ways to familiarize yourself with your children’s school mates.  It's also a great way to get to know your fellow BMES parents.  Each year, roughly 50 to 60 parents sign up for a “short tour of volunteer duty” — either one-half day or one full day — at this Health Screening.   During this time, you’ll be making a truly significant contribution to our children.   With each Health Screening, we are able to identify BMES students with vision or hearing difficulties that might otherwise have gone undiagnosed.  A vision or hearing impairment left undiagnosed can have a dramatic impact in the classroom, so your dedication as a volunteer to this important program is a truly valuable contribution to our children and school.

Holiday Luncheon/Teacher Appreciation
Throughout the year, the PTO hosts several teacher appreciation events.   Before school starts, PTO provides a luncheon for the teachers as they return to work and the classroom.  We also get into the holiday spirit with a special luncheon for the teachers, and provide food on parent/teacher conference days.  In addition, we provide small appreciation gifts to each of the teachers.

Field Day ~ Friday, March 26
Remember Field Day when you were a kid?  Well, we bring all of that good, old-fashioned fun back to BMES one spring day each year.  The day is chocked full of fitness activities and games for all of the students.  Our DJ plays great music and MCs the games, while students participate in lots of wacky events -- both wet and dry. Who doesn't love Field Day?  Numerous parent volunteers are needed to make this event run smoothly.

Birthday Book Club
It's birthday time! Each month, the Birthday Book Club celebrates that month's birthdays by offering your child the opportunity to donate a book in their name to the library.  A small party is held and each child receives his or her donated book to take home and review before giving it a permanent home in the library.

Giving Tree
The Giving Tree committee works with teachers to inform parents of items needed in the classroom.  Teachers fill in "apples" with items they need for their classroom, then parents "pick" apples and purchase the items for the class.  You'll find your teacher's Giving Tree usually on her classroom door.  Many teachers are excited to see their trees bare after just a few days.
